An African Tale

A raindrop fell into the hand of a child. It said, ‘Close up your hand, run to the hills with the trees and release me there. I will go into the soil and it will rain.’
The child closed his hand and ran to the hills with the trees as quickly as he could. But when he arrived and opened his hand, the raindrop had evaporated. The child ran crying back to the village and told the elders that the raindrop had died, and that it would never rain again. But the elders said to him, ‘Don’t cry! We will plant trees in the village so that the next rain drop doesn’t have time to dry up. We will plant trees and we will have rain.’
